This version of Finney's Lectures was formatted for an easy read of a classic work.The writing itself was more holistic than I expected and his call to what normal Christianity is a challenge for those of us who live in easy believism. However, because he is writing as a reaction to extreme Calvinism of his time that was always "waiting on God" even when God is clearly working in the hearts of people, Finney errs the other direction, saying that people can do good and choose God, that God only gives us power to will it, which I don't find in scripture. Also, his expression of what purity in the Lord should look like is legalistic and culturally driven. But given that, it still challenges things in my life I had been excusing as acceptable to God, when they are really wasteful and indulgent and are distractions to those who are looking at my life to see if Christianity really has the power I say it does.This is a good read of pastors and lay leaders, not only for the historical knowledge of hearing his thoughts Finney's own words, it is also a good challenge for those in of a thought provoking challenge to the revitalize their spiritual life and ministry.

Don't let the picture on the cover scare you off. He was definitely anti alcohol, tobacco(smoking & chewing) and slavery. You will need to read his comment on tobacco juice on the church floor to get an amusing analogy.

I haven't read this yet - but understand (see William McLloughlin's "Modern Revivalism") that this Finney work is STILL USED by Revivalist IN the 21st Century for inspiration and guidelines. Finney wrote with work in the mid-19th Century.

For serious pasta makers, this book is an absolute treasure trove of information about the myriad shapes and doughs and styles of Italian pasta and dumplings. This is not a how-to book, it is what it says it is: An encyclopedia of what's done in Italy. But if you know how to make pasta yourself, it is a touchstone for endless fun in the kitchen.I find myself using the index most often: I'll have an ingredient, like rabbit or porcini or anchovies, and I will want to pair it with pasta or a dumpling,. Chances are Oretta has written about some obscure pasta perfect with braised rabbit. Armed with solid knowledge about how to make pasta on my own, her entries tell me most of what I need to go from there.My only regret is that there were not more illustrations. The line drawings are beautiful and very clearly illustrate what the shape is supposed to look like, which can be tricky with some of the odder shapes.

This is a great book about the historical and culinary aspects of pasta. The names of different type of pasta are arranged in alphabetical order, from "abbotta pezziende" (not so common a pasta name/type) to "zumari". In between you will find information about rigatoni, fettuccine, farfalle, and many other. The different pasta shapes combined with the presence/absence of ridges on the outer surface allows each pasta to capture the right amount of sauce. Some names are related to the shapes of pasta (eg. farfalle = butterflies) while others derive from old fairy tails or popular stories. The book is very entertaining and instructive, well done! A good complement to the Encyclopedia is "Pasta, a story of a universal food" by Serventi and Sabban.

This is truly an Encylopedia of pasta. In that regard, it is well done and quite thorough. It is well researched and gives amazing history of each of the pastas. I use it as a history book. That said,it is lacking drawings for much of the pasta and that is unfortunate. The book would have been truly wonderful if it included photographs or drawings of each of the pastas. Without them, it makes some of the descriptions quite tedious, leaving too much to the imagination. Translations of more of the names of the pastas, would have also added much to the book since the names of the pastas, in Italian, are quite humerous: the mouse tails, the blind husband. It is not a cook book and that is a point that should be underscored: it is what it is, an Encyclopedia.

Good book with lots of information.

This book is one of the best resources for pasta that you will find. very well written with a lot of information about every type listed along with the history and other aliases. ingredients, uses, methods, dimensions. everything you would need to know about the particular pasta shape. Only one criticism would be that they are listed alphabetically so you must know the name in order to find what you are looking for with ease. the plus side to this is that you will spend a bit of time reading a brief synopsis of all the pastas until you find what you may be interested in. if you get the digital version you can tag the shapes as you see fit for easy reference.

This is a great book if you are interested in all things pasta. It is not a cook book so if that's what you're looking for you'll have to look elsewhere. This compact book is full of interesting facts about the history and development of pasta on the Italian penninsula. If you like food history, especially the history of Italian food, then this is a book which you will enjoy.

This is the first Delores Cannon book I've read -- even though it's been in my library for a while. I wish I'd have read it much earlier. As an empath and psychic/medium, I found the material to be a truly amazing journey into the hidden realms of the regressed mind. I've read hundreds of metaphysical books and from each have gained some amazing insight. This book however, kept on giving (page after page) golden nuggets of thought provoking concepts that not only challenged my human thinking, but most of all gave me hope for our species and a new earth. The love that comes through is a treasure to behold.

My name is Collette aka Coco Mojo and I just bought this item from Amazon.The subject of this book was hypnotically regressed and re-experienced what seemed to be a past life on another planet, as a different species. I am convinced there is intelligent life on other planets, so I find this book entirely plausible.In fact, I myself had an interesting experience when I was two years old -- it was so powerful I never forgot it (I have an unusual memory and have fifty very distinct memories before the age of three). I was standing with my parents on the balcony of our apartment in Tujunga, California in 1963, and I looked up at the night sky. I KNEW beyond all shadow of a doubt that THAT was my home -- I had come from the stars! This knowingness was so powerful it made an indelible impression in my mind, and the memory has never left me. (My parents had nothing to do with it -- they weren't Sci-Fi fans at all -- in fact, both were and still are Catholics. So, it's not like they influenced me in any way.)Another interesting incident happened when I was selling my art at a psychic fair many years ago in the Seattle area. An authoritative, elderly woman in a business suit bought one of my sculptures and told me she was a psychic, and offered to give me a FREE reading (she adored my art that much!). We sat down and she glanced for two seconds at my palm (she wasn't reading LINES, per se, but rather was getting a take on my personal "signature").She then looked deeply into my eyes and said, "This is VERY RARE! This isn't your Home, is it?" "No," I responded sadly, "But doesn't everyone feel that way?" "Not like YOU do," she replied. (By now, we both had tears in our eyes, and we held hands.) The story is convoluted (not a pun on her "Convoluted Universe" books!) and cannot be summarized. It concerns a young man who is very depressed and on the verge of suicide. He turns to Dolores Cannon for past-life regression, and the long series of sessions (under hypnosis) with her reveals a vastly different story of our earth and our universe, which could not even be imagined in our wildest dreams. Such as: Earth was "seeded" over uncountable aeons of time by "star people" in order to make it livable, and eventually they also ... hmmm ... "seeded" human beings. These beings from other planets and universes are mostly not physical and three-dimensional like us, but spirits and energy beings/light beings ... See, if you have a sense of wonder at the unimaginable possibilities of the Universe (far beyond the Milky Way galaxy), read this book. I did not understand everything that the subject, Philip, and the other entities speaking through him, explained.I did find that (maybe, for me) Dolores did not always ask the questions I wanted answers to, and the story does veer off at tangents sometimes. However, with a (miraculous?) non-fiction tale like this, it's easy for me: I cannot simply state that I DO believe the incredible tale, or that I DO NOT believe "such hogwash". I stand neutral towards this amazing revelation, if that is indeed what it is. I found the unfolding story of the timeless millions of years of the development of Earth, plus the incredible populations of various universes fascinating, and it provided me with food for thought.Having had a brief nighttime encounter with a noisy UFO above our house many years ago, and the telepathic message that under no circumstances am I to leave my bed (I so wanted a look!), I know there are aliens out there. I have also twice caught UFO's on photos -- and only saw them once I downloaded the photos and enlarged them.Keep in mind: how small we are, how little we know ... and without committing yourself to a belief in this out-of-this-world tale, keep your sense of wonder and know "there are more things in heaven and on earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy."

I read Convoluted Universe and the Custodians before I read this book. It's a very early publication and is not worth reading unless it's read first. The other books outstrip the concepts presented in this little handbook by a long shot. If you are just waking up and beginning to research concepts beyond the world's mass TV view, this is the book for you. You'll be happy reading and digesting it as a first try. If you are already awake, well read and researched in science and the concepts of ETs, it is not. In that case, buy the Custodians, then Book 1 of Convoluted Universe. This book will be too slow for you.

Arlen’s journey in search of what it means to be a 20th century man of Armenian descent traced centuries of history in compelling descriptions, culminating in what many of us did not understand: Armenia was virtually exterminated. Very reader friendly, hard to put down, yet the gruesome details of the various massacres required me to stop and try to absorb the tragedy:highly recommended.

This book makes you think very hard about how the Armenians were & still are treated. Even in America there was a stigma of having an Armenian name as a child in the 1950's.

I am very happy with my purchase of "Passage to Ararat." This book has very nice illustration on the Armenian history throughout it's thousands of years old rich history and culture. It's a personal story of Arlen who travels to Armenia to find his roots. Very touching story of Armenian genocide survivors feelings and thing they want to forget.

Honest, balanced and heart breaking. Man is capable of acts worse than any beast in the jungle.

Really good quality for what I paid.. It arrived in great conditions, binding was great, no writing in it... I really needed this for my Into to Armenian Studies class! 😁

This review is of “Getting it Back”, book #3 in the “Red Hot Russians” series by Elizabeth Harmon.The story begins with Amy Shepherd, the heroine of the book and an athletic trainer, receiving a text from Mikhail “Misha” Zaikov, the hero of the book, a former Russian singles skater and, more importantly for this book, Amy’s ex-boyfriend. Misha has been sort-of drifting since his competitive skating career ended due to a back injury, and now he is plotting a comeback.Amy leaves her home, job, family and friends in Ohio to travel to Russia with Misha, whom she still has romantic feelings for, as his personal athletic trainer.As the book goes on, we learn more about Misha’s motives for becoming a champion, he reunites with his estranged father, Ilya, Amy fights with Misha’s coach, Yuri Bogdanov, whom Misha later leaves to train with his father, a fellow former skater.Amy and Misha’s feelings for each other deepen, but they almost throw their relationship away. However, things are salvaged before that happens, and Amy and Misha have their Happily Ever After.Upside: As she has in her previous books, Ms. Harmon has, in “Getting it Back”, written two characters in Amy and Misha who are hopelessly human, and that is what makes them fairly interesting characters. I appreciate the non-traditional ending to the skating scenes.Downside: I didn’t have the same feeling for Amy and Misha that I’ve had for other heroes and heroines in Ms. Harmon’s books. The book feels a little manipulative. There are too many shallow moments in the book that when the deep moments come, I feel they are forced.Sex: There are a few sexy scenes, but this is not Ms. Harmon’s strength as an author.Violence: No violence, although there are some curse words from Misha’s former employer.Bottom Line: Not Ms. Harmon’s best work; not not enough interesting characters or storylines to make up for weaknesses.

I bought this book after reading Pairing Off (which I loved). This one was a slightly slower pace, but still enjoyable and filled with the wonderful descriptions I've come to expect from a Harmon book. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this book, as I have Elizabeth's first two books in her series. The hero and his lady are worth rooting for and hoping they will succeed . Really looking forward to your next novel, keeping writing!

I thought this was the best book of the series.

If you’re a fan of figure skating, then this book does a great job of bringing the painful, hard work behind the effortless beauty to life. If you’re here for sexy Russians and don’t have much interest in the sport… this may not be the book you’re looking for. It’s a good second chance romance, but the emphasis is heavily on the sport and even though I really like figure skating, I found it did drag a bit at times.I really liked where this started out, with Amy being amazing and forgiving and all around awesome, while Misha is all sad and pitiful and deeply in need of her help. The pair of them are pretty sweet as they muddle through. I really liked how supportive Amy was, encouraging Misha to get back on the ice and reclaim something of his former dreams.Then it heads to Russia, and I have to admit that's when this book lost my attention a little. There’s a lot of detail about Moscow, and while this was great and all, at times it felt a bit like a guidebook. It doesn’t help that Amy and Misha’s relationship is very stop/start, with plenty of feelings swirling around and being denied because of the past, or because of professionalism, or just because. Which leaves Misha single-minded and prone to selfishness, while Amy is trying to be supportive and worrying a lot, for very good reason – but then what did she really expect? She knows the guy, she knows what he wants, it could hardly have come as a surprise that he would push things the way he did.I don’t know. There were things about this book that I really enjoyed – the early reunion, the friendships and reconciliations to be made – but it also felt pretty long at times and somewhat predictable. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. Amy is so very forgiving that it made it feel a bit odd when she changes tack, while Misha starts off so sweet and slowly shuts down as he becomes obsessed with his goal once more. They’re complicated, but a few of the twists of their relationship I found more annoying than compelling.So on the whole this is okay. If you love figure skating and second chances, then you’ll probably find plenty to enjoy here. I did like how things turned out at the very end too, and it all made me curious about where this series might head next.(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)

Visually, it's attractive. But since finding the error, I'm worried there may be more.

Best book ever! I am a Sub Teacher and this should be the textbook in schools! Way easier to explain and understand. I wish I had this growing up. I'm going to use with my children. I will use when Teaching also. Way helpful!!! Highly highly highly recommend!

The text is easy to understand for my kids. Would have been a better product if it had a link to worksheets that could be printed for each section to reinforce learning.
