This book desperately needs a copy editor. So many grammatical errors! It makes reading the book difficult, and it makes one wonder if the important stuff in the book is equally as bad. This is a second edition, so this would have been a great opportunity to clean up the copy (the text). Sloppy, sloppy. And I only just finished Chapter 1.
I just finished reading Benjamin Mangold’s second edition of“Learning Google AdWords and Google Analytics†and found it to be a very timely, interesting and informative book.The authors expertise in the subject matter is obvious as you read through his not only easy to read, but simple to apply the content to, book.Mangold has worked closely with Google for over a decade. The very first trainer certified by Google in BOTH their AdWords and Analytics he is a bonafide expert in both of these areas.This 29 chapter book, divides itself equally among AdWords and Analytics.It is a fantastic resource and a valuable reference for anyone that is either just starting out using either or both of these Google platforms, and needs a primer, or for someone who has already been involved, has experience, but is looking to get current needing a refresher to bring them up to speed.Even the book’s index is comprehensive and thorough.In the book’s intro ...Mangold offers a companion website to accompany this book. This website provides updates, as changes are made, as well as additional resources the reader/viewer can apply to stay or become current.I give this book a two thumbs up, and suggest it belong on the bookshelf of entrepreneurs, digital marketers and small-mid size business CMO’s.
Benjamin Mangold is a known expert in the field of AdWords and Analytics. Google relies on him when it comes to training and seminars about these topics in Australia in New Zealand. He's the founder of LovesData, an agency which works quite successful on that stuff all day. He made up great courses and invaluable blog posts about AdWords, Analytics, and Google Tag Manager and even offers free lessons about these topics on his YouTube channel. He is a clever, kind, intelligent, humble and sophisticated guy who contributes to the community. I'm a fan of his stuff and I really like his style. He is on the same level and among such guys like Avinash Kaushik, Simo Ahava, Yehoshua Coren, Krista Seiden, Justin Cutroni or Brad Geddes.So this is the second edition of this book and as a first buyer of the first edition, I really can recommend buying the second one. I collect courses and books about all the stuff around Google AdWords, Analytics, Tag Manager, etc. and this book is one of my favorites, even as a German guy whose humble English can't describe my utmost respect. The book is "Google Analytics and AdWords for Dummies" without the feeling of being too dumb to understand the darn thing. The contact with beginners doesn't let him forget the difficulties (and there are some: ever tried to connect your YouTube channel with AdWords and Analytics via a brand account? Good luck!), but he doesn't stay there like a lot of books. He takes us on an interesting and promising journey to success. The things I miss as a European? GDPR! The thing I miss as a reader, who isn't color blind? Color! Sorry to say so, but: WTF? What reason is it, that the book is in b/w layout in the Kindle/eBook version? There isn't one, there can't be one. Change that. Period! The GTM chapter is much too small and mentioning the benefits of interaction not only between Analytics and AdWords but also Google Search Console, My Business, Optimize and especially the awesome and outstanding Data Studio would have been beneficial. Good job, Benjamin, but there's room for improvement. Send me the next edition for proofreading and I could tell you before release ;-)
Strange how another reviewer complained about the grammar, when this book is an invaluable investment in a subject, which is so critical for any online business these days. Wish I had come across this type of book years ago, so we could have avoided a lot of the voodoo science in the digital world.
