Which explanation (pure unguided naturalism or supernatural intervention) best accounts for the evidence at the "crime scene"?God's Crime Scene is a unique apologetics overview, introducing a variety of arguments and lines of evidence for God's existence from the perspective of a Cold Case Homicide Detective. It's my goal to provide a satisfying examination of eight pieces of evidence in our universe, without wandering too deeply into esoteric scientific or philosophical detail. I grew up reading Josh McDowell's Evidence That Demand's a Verdict. More recently, Lee Strobel has sold millions of his Case for . . . books. Into that tradition of popular apologetics enters J. Warner Wallace. From his perspective as an experienced detective, he has written God's Crime Scene: A Cold Case Detective Examines the Evidence for a Divinely Created Universe.Wallace's style and approach is readable and enjoyable. He introduces each chapter with details from different crime scenes he has investigated. Using crime scene investigation as a metaphor, he introduces different classic theistic arguments to determine if evidence points to an actor "inside the room" or "outside the room."Readers familiar with Christian apologetics will recognize traditional theistic arguments: origin of life, evidence of design, universal morality, the problem of evil, free will and others. Wallace engages these arguments from a philosophical perspective, while providing his crime scene illustrations to keep it fresh and relatable for the non-philosophical reader.His bottom line: that philosophers have been unable to come to a consensus on an "inside the room" explanation for the evidence. The best explanation, he argues, calls for "an 'external' suspect" who is "non-spatial, a-temporal, non-material, and uncaused. . . . also powerful enough to create everything we see in the universe, and purposeful enough to produce a universe fine-tuned for life." Further, the only being that fits all of those descriptors is, of course, God.Wallace's arguments are cogent and well-reasoned. How effective are they? I don't know. I am a Christian, fully convinced of all Wallace argues. Yet I found my mind wandering. I don't know how well equipped I would be after reading this. I also don't know how convincing Wallace's arguments would be even to an open-minded agnostic. However, given the right reader, or the right conversation partner, Wallace's book can be a great resource for defending the reasonableness, perhaps even the inevitability, of theism.Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

I really wanted to love this book. I've listened to the author, and he's so easy to understand. He frames his arguments rationally and covers a lot in a little time. The concept is elegant, but the execution was hard for me to follow. The book has some excellent 5-star points, especially at the beginning. Then I began to feel bogged down by all the pictures (often hard to interpret) and "too much" info. Hard to describe, but almost gave up reading it. While I had a big picture takeaway -- look for a 'causer' outside the room -- I wish I had gotten more out of it.

I enjoyed reading God's Crime Scene. Enjoyed the crime stories which helped present the tools of investigation. More and more I am impressed by the piles of evidence that point towards a reasonable believe in God as the creator of the Universe. I had mainly accepted it on faith, but having the case laid out like this was terrifically helpful. I love science and I love Jesus and I love that both of these are so closely intertwined. I highly recommend this book.

Not only is this book well written, it is brilliantly organized. And the real-life analogies make abstract logical ideas real and accessible. My copy is covered with margin notes and highlights. No matter what you have read in Apologetics, this book will do two things, guaranteed: it will organize your thoughts, and it will give you new and fresh ways to explain important truths to other people.

This book is one of the freshest perspectives I've seen for evaluating eight main lines of evidence (cosmological, life from non-living things/biological structures/reproduction, the mind proceeding from the brain, free will/morality/presence of evil) to present not only an argument for the existence of God, but also a snapshot of what these things reveal about His character. Wallace looks at both sides of the arguments and provides tools for evaluating these and other arguments. I definitely recommend reading this book.

I used materials from Cold-Case Christianity and Forensic Faith for a "personal enrichment" class at Maranatha Bible College. The student's loved Jim Wallace's no-nonsense crisp evidentiary approach to evangelism and apologetics. The students wanted more. In God's Crime Scene (GCS), Jim marshals evidence from an impressive range of writers and thinkers from the fields of physics, biology, psychology, philosophy, theology and more to show the scientific case for God is compelling yet accessible for "jurors" without specialized academic training. The 40 pages of "Case Files" at the end of the book listing both pro and con expert witnesses together with sources for further investigation are an excellent start for the lay-person wanting to delve deeper. I am using GCS to prepare an introduction to science-based apologetics and evangelism course. Jim Wallace has done the heavy-lifting providing a persuasive structure and many useful analogies to make concepts easier to grasp. I recommend GCS to instructors and small group leaders seeking to foster science-based evangelism.

I had to re-learn Trigonometry after having learned it some 35 years ago. I picked up this title and a popular contemporary text (Larson et al). For explanations of various concepts, this book is far superior to the Larson text. With any math book that claims to be accessible, one worry is - Is the content easy because all the difficult parts have been left out ? The Humongous book covers all the Trig topics in the Larson text, so it definitely covers the Trig topics in a High School level course. So it is not a dumbed down book at all !Pluses :+ I love the fact that the author explains almost all Trig concepts with examples and intuitive appeal. There was very little that I had to memorize outright+ Michael Kelley writes exceptionally clearly and explains concepts extremely well+ Any student that works through every problem should improve their understanding considerably+ At a cost of $15-$20, this is a terrific investment+ Written in a very nice, very accessible style that will appeal to math-phobes+ One can work through the examples in the book quickly. They are nicely laid out (simple problems to more advanced ones as the chapter progresses)Minuses :- Hardly any proofs, but for this one can easily refer back to the Larson (or any other) text- I spotted some errors in the worked out examples, but I am sure that Mr Kelley will fix these in future editions- Several way to do any problem, there were simpler approaches to solve some of the problems- Some topics (eg converting polar equations to rectangular form) don't receive adequate or good coverage. For such topics, I look at internet resources and solved several problems from the textbook.These Minuses don't detract from this excellent, invaluable book much.Highly recommended as a study guide in a Trigonometry course or for self study ! Need to work out each example yourself to derive the maximum benefit from the book.I like this book so much that I bought the Algebra book for my middle school aged son, and I will be buying all of Mr. Kelley's other books soon.

Michael Kelley's series is the best. I have used some of his other books (Algebra and Calculus) as tutoring aids. I needed to replace the Calculus and Algebra books, so I bought this one as well.It did not disappoint. Like his other books, Kelley uses LOTS of examples and problems and they all have good explanations. For example, I was tutoring someone last night who was struggling with a Trig problem that required factoring. We talked through how to factor, and when I turned to that section in Kelley's book, there were a few problems that required factoring, and Kelley walked the reader through factoring!

I had never been moved to laugh out loud by a math book until reading this one. Kelley provides crystal clear explanations laced with a dry wit that actually makes the highly repetitive practice needed to master trig almost enjoyable. This is not your typical math textbook where even after reading through a chapter you might be just as lost as when you started because it assumes too much prior knowledge. At the same time, nothing in this book feels so dumbed down as to be patronizing. I highly recommend it for both trig beginners as well as people brushing up on old trig concepts to make calculus classes easier.

Nice oversized book which I wanted and I could use as a workbook for reviewing trig. Pretty thorough and very step by step worked out answers. Clear explanations and I like choices for the order of workng out an answer. Maybe too bulky for some and too tedious for others but just right for me.

Awesome book for learning high school trigonometry. I unfortunately discovered that I am better at trigonometry than I had thought, after I bought it.

Not a practice workbook. It is more like a study book with a few examples and lots of wordy explanations for one example.

Nephew needed help w/tri- for prep academy. And I'm so glad to say he passed with flying colors and graduated.. GREAT BUY!!

The author organized the subjects carefully to cover the material and develop the intuitive problem solving required. Also the book author organized answers to every problem for best recognition of steps taken to solve the problem.

Even those who have studied WWII in great detail will be amazed by the amount of research in this work. It is extremely well written, unlike many books today which seemed aimed at the vocabulary of a child. The strategic brilliance of the dying FDR is engrossing - it's a huge volume to cover such a short period of time, yet every chapter contains detail and perspective which one knows need such in-depth presentation to do justice to a president whose mind and determination remained unflaggingly strong, however weak he was physically. I'm sure many readers will have moments, as I did, when FDR's plans seemed unwise - but his foresight is well-justified.The single flaw in this work is that it is as flag-waving as a patriotic American of the era. It did seem to minimise the contributions of other Allied nations, and there is a mildly irritating flavour of 'then the US stepped in and won the victory' (not that there aren't specific situations where that essentially was true.) It is a 'must read' for students of the period, but needs to be balanced with equally probing works about Churchill.

If you are a history buff or one even slightly interested in the background of WWII this is a book not to miss.You will be taken aback with the detailed research that had to have gone into the writing of this one. key The writing is absolutely excellent and will hold you in it's audience.FDR was WWII's "key strategist" and it's sad that he didn't live to witness the culmination of his planning.Don't miss it if you are intrigued at all.

I got this book for some career lessons I was doing with 3rd graders. To pique their interest, I read several of the job titles aloud. The kids were all fascinated to hear about the animal food taster, but no one wanted that job in the future! Lots of illustrations, and the writing is geared to older kids. It’s a fun way to explore oddball careers that might just spark a child’s interest.

I've given this book to 8 grade school kids - and they all love it.

My 10 year old loves it! His siblings aged 3 and 4 also enjoy looking at the pictures with him and learning about different jobs. Super cute little book that does a great job with exciting kids about their future and all the paths they could take!

There are so many things you can be when you grow up. But did you know some of the weirdest careers could be the most fun? If you lived in Japan you might want to be a Professional Pusher. Their job is to push you into the train or subway if you get caught in the doors. You could be a party planner, professional groomer or radio show host. If you wanted to be a Perfumer you would have to have a great sense of smell. If you wanted to make shoes just for horses you would be called a Farrier. If you wanted to become a cranberry farmer you might have to get your feet wet.This informational guide to readers has some very cool, weird and even scary jobs inside. Detail descriptions and fun facts along with real life photos will give insight on what it would take to be in that particular job. The back pages are host to a career list and even more resources. Parents and teachers may view this and get ideas for a change of career themselves.

What an utterly delightful book! I loved the way that the author presented each of the 100 careers in this book. With National Geographic's typical gorgeous photographs and bright, fun, appealing design, each of 100 different careers are presented. The book is not intended to offer detailed descriptions, but merely a brief introduction to the possibilities that exist. Including brief suggestions for ways to explore one's interests (called Inspiration Station), the book focuses on primarily unusual careers such as astronaut, party planner, tree house builder, professional line waiter, and snake milker. This book is bound to be enjoyed by young readers who are curious about the world around them and what the possibilities are for their future. I especially enjoyed the brief interviews with people who currently work in some of the jobs presented. It's especially interesting to see what led these folks to the careers they work in.
