I got this book because we have a timeshare in Cancun and although we love it, we were sick of doing the same old things on the hotel strip and getting ripped off for doing something I could do in the same city for a fraction of the price. After reading Rowicz' book we picked out a nice condo in Puerto Juarez and had a ball. Here are a few of the suggestions we took from the book: Went to Park de las Palapas and had a ball eating local food and buying some jewelry from the locals and talking with a few. In fact we found a little internet friendly restaurant off a side street there and we would go for drinks and use the wi-fi. (The wi-fi, even in our upscale hotel on the strip, stinks!) We went to Playa de North which was absolute heaven. We went to Forum Playa, which is on the hotel zone, and it was exactly as described. We went to La Distillaria and got the tequilla tour. We rode the ADO bus from the airport, air-conditioned and under the bus luggage and saved a TON of money getting to our destination. We did NOT overpay cabs and saved a ton of money. I now use the Duolingo site and am learning Spanish. I love Mexico but I was sick of feeling like I was just in a warmer version of the US and I was sick of getting ripped off. Great book.

This is by far the best guide out there. Sure, this guide isn't for everyone... he even says it himself. If you have thousands of dollars to spend, only want to visit the biggest tourist traps, or if you want to stick with expensive (and overrated) restaurants, this NOT the guide for you. If you're like me, going with a family that is on a budget, that wants to really experience authentic Mexican culture and food, and have a lot of fun while you're at it, this is the perfect thing.Although I'm "Gringo", I have lived in Central America for many years and so I'm familiar with the Latin American culture. However, Rowicz offered many insights that were unique to the Cancun area that I really appreciated, since I had never visited the Yucatan. Sure, he definitely has parts of the book that are geared to young, single adults, but he has overwhelming amounts of useful information for famlies and others as well.In my opinion, the only thing that could make this Guide Book perfect is if he included more information of the surrounding cities of the Riviera Maya, like Playa del Carmen, Tulum, etc. He definitely has valuable information about these areas, but the central focus is on Cancun, just as the title would suggest.I'll say it again: If you know you're not the type of the person that does not enjoy trying new things, experiencing new cultures, or if you have plenty of money to spend, this probably isn't the guide for you. But my wife and kids thoroughly enjoyed our vacation here and can definitely thank Rowicz for providing some great vacation ideas and tips.

Highly recommend this book! But beware, I bought several kindle edition Cancun books and this is the exact same book as "Cancun: This is NOT a Travel Guide", strange thing is these books have different authors so how does that happen???? I'm complaining to Amazon!!!!

We found this book very helpful for finding the offbeat items. This is not a book for the tourist who is content to stay in the resort or only visit the touristy locations. It is the book for those who want to find restaurants where locals eat, and to really get to the know the place.

Unfortunately I need to give a poor review. I did not find this book to be very helpful. It did not have a map, have good instructions for transportation options when arriving from the airport, didn't go into good detail about fun adventurous things to do with children. I would have liked a section on history of the region, details of sightseeing and getting around the area. The cenotes are an awesome adventure in the area and it only had a tiny section with one recommendation dedicated to this topic. Even my son mentioned it didn't give much information. I have used independent travel books for other adventures and they generally have good maps and better details on the area.

This book is more approprite for college students or people on a really limited budget.I was quite disappointed with this guide and figure I mis-understood whom the author's target audience is. In addition, maybe my expectations as to what an "insider's" point of view meant was skewed by the overview description. I was hoping for a good amount of reviews and suggestions with a "local" slant and quite frankly there aren't much of any.If you want to learn about accomodations and restaurants this is not the guide for you but if you want to learn how to stay in a hostel for free then buy this book. While there is a lot of guidance on street food I wonder if the author really thinks the mainsteam tourist are going to risk street vendor food and homemade beveages. Some reviews of local, non-tourist establishments where Montezuma's Revenge won't be a concern would have been appreciated.While suggested sources of discounted admissions were good you can get fairly similar info and discounts from a good hotel consierge; just remember to tip them.The few useful points like don't drink tap water, be careful about buying vanilla and eat some yogurt to ward off the runs are not worth the price of this book.No real info on great trinkets or soveniers to bring home.A couple of high points: I did learn about the tequila museaum and which big box store has the best prices for booze.

Bought this on Kindle and returned it. None of the special "notes" or suggestions showed up in the bordered areas. If that doesn't bother you, there may be information you can find useful. I returned it promptly, so I'm not sure.

Love Lindsay Sands with vampire stories and I'd course Hannnah Howell with her historical twist made this a very good read. Would I like to see more of the duo, you bet!

It was a good book. The only thing I don’t really like was how they wrote. It took a bit to understand and be able to read at my usual pace. I get that for some people it might make them more immersed but for me it was a hinderance. .

I was uncertain when I purchased the book as to what, exactly, it's format was. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that it consisted of two intertwined stories by two different authors. I'm a big Hannah Howell fan, but I'd never read anything by Lynsay Sands. I was impressed by how well the two authors pulled it off. Though their styles are different, the stories mesh well. The personalities of the protagonists are also quite different, as is the way each couple is introduced to each other. Another recommendation was spelled incorrectly. Overall, I don’t think I got my money’s worth with this purchase.

A thoroughly satisfying conclusion to a brilliant trilogy. Picking right up after the evil cliffhanger that ended volume 2, 'Kings Rising' delivers the high tension, emotional punches and complex political maneuvering fans have come to expect after the first two books. Damen's identity is finally out in the open and the emotional fallout is spectacular and should delight fans whether they saw certain aspects coming or not (my friend was spot-on about Laurent, unlike me). The author doesn't take the easy way out where other authors might, and yet the conflicts never feel forced or contrived as if there had to be conflict there for conflict's sake or in order to prevent a smoother journey to the novel's end. The Kyroi are a complicated addition to the political mix, amusing in all the right parts but never an easy crutch for Damen, either.I have only two minor complaints:MILD SPOILERSMILD SPOILERSMILD SPOILERSFirstly, that Jokaste's subplot is rushed through as quickly as possible for something that is so incredibly complex. Her motivation, or the examination and revelations of, is so tacked on that it either needed more room to breathe or might as well have been removed entirely. Her pregnancy may as well as not have happened - the one thing in the novel that feels like an Obvious Plot Device so that Certain Things Can Happen As The Plot Demands.Secondly, the novel ended too soon. The denouement is a critical part of any novel and 'Kings Rising' seems to be missing it, cutting off at the end of the climax. There is no chance to see the dust settle or learn how the characters follow through after the villains are all dealt with. I know they say 'leave them wanting more', but the abrupt end feels like someone ripped out the last chapter of the novel - ultimately unsatisfying, all the more so because the quality of the entire trilogy up til this part.

It might be unfair, but my grade for this book is based on things that aren't in it as much as things that are. The inevitable result of a long wait for a series finale is that we all imagine what it might be like, and this book didn't quite deliver everything I wanted. But I still really enjoyed it and it's miles better than most things I read in the romance genre.King's Rising still has the lovely, spare, elegant prose that respects the reader's intelligence; I loved the way that I was expected to interpret the feelings of Damen and Laurent through their words and reactions rather than having everything explained to death. Damen is a tremendously appealing narrator, with his steadfast love for Laurent; no idiotic alpha male posturing for him. The story sweeps along with unpredictable incidents towards the confrontation with the villains.But as it approached the ending I found myself a bit underwhelmed by the plotting. There were some twists that seemed unnecessary and some leaps of logic on the part of both Damen and Laurent that didn't seem believable. I was asking myself, "But how did he know that?" too many times, whereas in the second book I was time and again delighted by some revelation that was utterly surprising but which made perfect sense. In this book the surprises weren't entirely supported by any evidence earlier in the story.And no doubt I'm not alone in wishing for more of an ending; it's all over too abruptly for such an epic tale. In some ways the understated expressions of happiness from our heroes is in keeping with the rest of the series, but surely at the end we could have had a bit more affirmation of their feelings and a bit more explanation for the reader. Most epilogues in romance are utterly superfluous and quite annoyingly treacly but in this case a glimpse into the future would have been welcome.I still loved Damen and Laurent, and I loved the writing. I'm grading this book against the others in the series rather than against everything else I read. It's not the best in the series but it's still well worth reading.

Out of the three books this is the weakest but I enjoyed it all the same. First off. C.S. Pacat. Get a better cover for your book. If it's considered that this book costs the most out of the trilogy and overall you're expected to pay a certain price to read all three there's a certain quality of care that one expects from the Author and the Publisher's decisions to create a book. Overall the writing is great. I am not one to judge a book by it's cover usually but I was surprised how strong the writing for this book was in comparison to the dime store wrapping. It looks as if it's trying to look like Beauty's Punishment but given the amount of actual sexual content involved in the book I don't think it needs a generic cover. The Author is also not famous enough to need to downplay a connection.Seriously. Get a more substantial cover given the amount you want your readers to pay. This doesn't normally bother me but it did every single time I bought one of the books. Now to the plot..This is the weakest by far of the books because the ending. I wanted an epilogue. Yes. It's great that they're lovers. Yes, it's great that everything worked out. However the production of the wife during the trial felt like a literal deus ex machina being lowered on to the stage. It was ham-handed at best. I got the impression there could have been more book but that the author decided enough was enough and was done writing.
