Outstanding book for the Stans, especially in 2014 with the newest edition. I traveled through Kyrgyzstan and also brought the Bradt Kyrgyzstan book, which had nearly 300 pages on Kyrgyzstan alone. Nevertheless, I found the Lonely Planet chapter on Kyrgyzstan (less than 100 pages) more useful. The info was right on the mark and better organized. I also used the book for Astana, Kazakhstan, and again LP did a great job with that. Highly recommend for anyone traveling to the Stans.

The guide is very good, as the usual LP standard goes. We found everything we needed concerning our travel, the only downside are sometimes inaccurate big maps and sometimes the mentioned cities would need map (i.e. there's a accommodation mentioned in the big city, but there's no map of the city). The phone numbers are sometimes outdated, but that seemed to be an occassional flaw which cannot be helped as people in Uzbekistan seem to change numbers rather quickly.Definitely recommended for traveling the region, but if you are on a bike/in the car, get an extra map for each country you might want to pass, as it's not very reliable in the book and borders in this part of the world matter.

Even though it was published at 2014, After almost 3 years most of tips are still relevant. it could be more helpful if there were more photos of the sites and not to jump to google all the time, But generally another excellent guide by Lonely planet.

very hard to find travel books for this area. Very informative and so well laid out for travelers.

Interesting and informative guide to Central Asia.

Many places listed in lonely planet concerning Uzbekistan are no longer available, resulting in many useless and frustrating trips around Tashkent.

tons of practical, useful information. Taking it with me to Central Asia October 2017.Everything from embassy locations to how to take care of yourself.

Quick insights into a fascinating part of the world.

From the front cover to the back of the book it is chock-full with evidence, explanations, the history of what happened, the timeline. And it’s written in a very enjoyable-to-read way.” (Rush Limbaugh)

From the Back Cover

On July 5, 2016, as James Comey announced that he had cleared Hillary Clinton, his FBI was furtively meeting with the author of the fictitious anti-Trump “dossier” funded by Clinton and the Democrats. The document, together with many other unfounded accusations, would be exploited in a malicious attempt to frame Trump for unidentified crimes he did not commit. This was the beginning of the Russia hoax. This book is a defense of the rule of law, which came under sustained attack by high government officials who abused their positions of power to subvert our system of justice and undermine the democratic process. As facts emerged, legal analyst Gregg Jarrett became incensed that top figures at the FBI and Department of Justice deliberately abused their offices. They absolved Hillary Clinton of flagrantly violating felony statutes. They weaponized other laws and regulations to investigate Trump without legal justification, in an effort to destroy him. They compromised essential principles and damaged the nation’s trust. As The Russia Hoax details, there was never any plausible evidence that Trump or his campaign collaborated with Russia to win the presidency. The FBI had no legal basis to initiate its investigation. Facts were invented or exaggerated. Laws were perverted or ignored. The law enforcers became lawbreakers; James Comey’s scheme to trigger the appointment of his friend as special counsel was a devious maneuver by an unscrupulous man. His insinuation that the president obstructed justice was another canard designed to inflame the liberal media. Sure enough, they became witting accessories. It may take months, if not years, before a true accounting is divulged. This is how cover-ups work—the truth is slow to emerge. However, we know enough about the misdeeds and conflicts of interest by people like Robert Mueller, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Andrew McCabe, and others to know that real crimes by career officials have piled up. Until history—or a special prosecutor—brings these officials down, the story told here presents more than sufficient facts for the reader to reach the inexorable conclusion that the investigation of President Trump is the witch hunt he’s called it.With insightful analysis and a fact-filled narrative, The Russia Hoax builds a step-by-step case that even the most partisan Democrat will find nearly impossible to dispute.

Very, very few of his footnotes lead to valid information - and even when the reference is valid, Jarrett refers to it out of context. The vast majority of his footnotes lead to conservative opinion pieces which promote conspiracy theories. None of his footnotes lead to proof. He didn't provide footnotes for any of the indictments -- he totally ignored them.He repeats the same talking points, over and over. It got boring.

I bought this because I thought it might provide some useful alternative perspectives. I got two pages into it and realised it was just a stream of consciousness conspiracy theory. No balance, no logic, no research, pure unhinged opinion.

No reading required to know that it's political BS. I'd rather punch myself in the gnads for 24 hours straight than read that Hollywood garbage.

My interest in this book occurred by chance. Over the past couple years reading news stories on sites like Yahoo News I sensed a very overt stance against President Trump. It appeared very obvious to me, but I wanted some confirmation whether these views may have validity, or perhaps not. So I started to investigate other opinions via some of the conservative talk radio shows. Up until this time, I rarely listened to them. One was the Sean Hannity Show and Gregg Jarrett was sitting in for Sean on one of the shows. He mentioned his book and I thought it sounded interesting. My basic assumption even prior to reading this book was I never felt there was any illegal Trump/Russian collusion in our recent election. I couldn't see how it would ever be done in such a way that would actually affect the voting outcome (other than if it were some kind of ballot box type fraud). So I had doubts about all the related investigations. When this book was mentioned I figured it would offer some factual information to help me understand the investigations better. It did accomplish that. And much more awareness. One of the major items about this book is that it is well researched and documented. This made me feel somewhat comfortable about its content. There is so much misinformation making its rounds today that knowing what is truthful and what isn’t can become a real guessing game. I could even ask ‘Did Mr. Jarrett fabricate his sources’? At this point I will go on faith that they are real. Based on that assumption, he presents a very hard case about the Russian collusion investigation as not being quite what the U.S.A. people are being led to believe by the media outlets. So much so, I hope this book could be a catalyst for other investigations (assuming that isn’t already being planned). As summarized in this book, a major point is about federal investigative departments having integrity in performing their duties, and doing so legally and without prejudice or political partisanship. This book does raise some real concerns. The author states at the end of the book "The people who should read this book, probably won't". Unfortunately he is probably correct. As a country we seem so divided today politically. It is my impression that anti-Trumpers will probably not want to acknowledge any conflicting thoughts or facts to their beliefs. But this book could be a great exercise in broadening one’s knowledge regarding the investigations on Trump. It would show a different viewpoint than that being touted by much of the media, and has the facts backing it up. At the very least, it can provide some food for thought.

Complete nonsense from Gregg Jarrett, a Fox News contributor. Jarrett sloppily attempts to craft an alternate reality in which Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Christopher Steele, Glenn Simpson, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Loretta Lynch, and Rod Rosenstein cooked up the phony Trump-Russia conspiracy to frame Trump. The book is published by HarperCollins, which, like Fox News, is owned by Rupert Murdoch. It is a shoddy propaganda effort held together with laughable legal arguments and unsupported conclusions.Note: Notice I didn't mention Robert Mueller as one of the conspirators. He's a ghost in this book. The first four chapters (about a quarter of the book) put Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation on trial for harmless emails, a widely debunked conspiracy theory about Uranium One, and bogus pay-for-play rumors. It's like a summary of Clinton Cash by Peter Schweizer. In other words, it consists of rumor, innuendo, gossip, bizarre conjecture, and legal mumbo jumbo. Complete trash. And, of course, it has nothing to do with the "Russia hoax," so it doesn't even belong in this book. The rest of the book describes the "fraudulent" case against Donald Trump. Here are some of the nuggets:- Sure, Russia tried to interfere in the 2016 election, but they do that every election, so nobody cares. Well, former V.P. Dick Cheney cares. He said that Russia's interference in the 2016 election was a significant escalation in their election dirty tricks and it could be called "an act of war." Facebook estimates that 126 million people were served content from Russia-linked pages. The book Cyberwar by Kathleen Hall Jamieson, a professor of communications at the University of Pennsylvania, persuasively argues that Russian trolls and hackers likely changed the outcome of the 2016 election.- The "hoax" was manufactured by high-ranking officials with the FBI and the DOJ. Their motives, never revealed in the book, were "impure." But what were they? Jarrett never tells us, a departure from his usual approach: unsupported conjecture.- When the FBI launched its investigation into the Trump campaign it had no legitimate basis for doing so. Really? The FBI determined that Russia hacked the DNC, and Trump campaign assistant George Papadopoulos told an Australian diplomat in a London bar about the theft of the DNC emails and their upcoming publication. That's what kicked off the counterintelligence investigation. Dozens of indictments later, it's now a criminal investigation. What more was needed to make the investigation "legitimate"?- "Collusion" is not a crime. Gee, who said it was? Of course, conspiracy to defraud the United States is a crime. So is espionage, campaign finance violations, money laundering, bribery, tax fraud, bank fraud, and racketeering. In fact, Manafort was charged with most of those crimes. Jarrett, a lawyer, knows this, but he's being disingenuous. Warning: If you quote Jarrett and say that "collusion is not a crime," people will mock you. Don't do it.- It's not a crime to talk to a Russian. However, it is a crime to talk with a Russian about sanctions and then lie about that meeting under oath to Congress. Also, did Jarrett talk to any Russians? It appears not.- The Steele dossier was a "preposterous collection of rumors, innuendos, supposition, and wild speculation." However, other than the story of Trump and prostitutes at the Ritz Carlton, the dossier's content was largely corroborated by U.S. intelligence.- The Steele dossier was the sole pretext for the FBI's probe of Trump. That's simply not true. Again, it was Trump campaign's foreknowledge of leaks of Russian-hacked emails stolen from the DNC that caused the FBI to conduct an investigation.- There was no reason to conduct surveillance of Carter Page, and DOJ officials may have violated several statutes. Actually, Carter Page had numerous contacts with Russian government officials, and he was either wittingly or unwittingly acting as a Russian agent. In a 2013 letter, Page called himself an “informal adviser” to Russia. U.S. intelligence services would have been negligent had they not surveilled Carter Page.- Meeting with a Russian lawyer in Trump Tower and discussing Russian adoptions is not a crime. Well, why did Donald Trump Jr. lie about the meeting? Why did the president dictate a phony press release about the meeting? Why wasn't the meeting disclosed? What does Paul Manafort say happened in the meeting? When there are multiple accounts of what happened at a meeting, you can bet that someone is lying.- National Security Advisor Michael Flynn committed no crimes. C'mon, he pleaded guilty to a felony, lying during an FBI interview about his conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. He's been cooperating with the Mueller investigation for the past year, and his sentencing is scheduled for December.- Attorney General Jeff Sessions mistakenly recused himself from the Trump-Russia investigation. I guess Jarrett is saying that had Sessions not recused himself, Mueller would never have been appointed as Special Prosecutor, and then Jarrett couldn't have cashed in with this book. Doh! Actually, Sessions had been caught lying about his Russian contacts multiple times. Other than resigning, recusal was his only option. He chose to recuse because he desperately wanted to be Attorney General.- FBI Director James Comey should have been fired in July 2016 after he botched the announcement that Hillary Clinton would not be charged with a crime. Hey, I actually agree with this! This is the only thing Jarrett got right in the book.- Firing Comey in 2017 was not obstruction. Actually, Trump told NBC's Lester Holt that he fired Comey because of the Trump-Russia thing. He admitted obstruction. But Jarrett argues that Trump also said Comey was incompetent, and that was his real reason for firing him. Whatever. Mueller has an abundant menu of obstruction to investigate: interference in the Flynn case, attempts to get Sessions to reverse his recusal, attempts to fire Mueller, attempts to fire Rosenstein, and dictation of a phony cover story to explain the Trump Tower meeting.- Comey stole classified government records and leaked them to the press. Actually, the documents were unclassified, and his friend leaked them. He also wrote about the documents in a book that was cleared for publication by the government.- The Mueller appointment was invalid. Jarrett says that when Mueller was appointed there was no actual crime to investigate. Huh? That's a mind-boggling assertion. Of course there was a crime: Russia interfered in the 2016 election. Everyone acknowledges this, even Putin. But Jarrett perhaps still believes it was a 400-pound man on a bed somewhere. Jarrett makes much of the fact that the Trump-Russia investigation began as a counterintelligence investigation, not a criminal investigation, so there was no need for a special prosecutor. Well, now it's a criminal investigation, and it's resulted in several convictions.- Mueller had conflicts and should have recused himself. Actually, the DOJ granted Mueller an ethics waiver for possible conflicts. Surely Jarrett knows that. Anyone can google it.- Rosenstein should have recused himself. Jarrett is on solid ground here. Yes, based on his being a fact witness to the Comey firing, Rosenstein should have recused himself. But he didn't. However, he said he would recuse if necessary. For instance, if Trump is indicted for obstruction. In the epilogue, Jarrett explains that his book is not a defense of Trump. He wrote it as a defense of the rule of law. Ha! It's both a terrible defense of Trump and a terrible defense of the rule of law. It makes a mockery of law, distorting the law to make it sound like Trump is innocent but is being framed by evil, unscrupulous Democrats (and Republicans--Comey, Rosenstein, and Mueller, for instance). As a book purportedly about the "Russia hoax," there's very little information about Trump and Russia in it. Nothing about Trump's trip to Moscow, his ownership of the Miss Universe pageant, his attempts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, his relationships with Russian mobsters, his fawning and bootlicking behavior toward Putin, and his reliance on Russian money for the past two decades. Numerous other books have been written about the Trump-Russia story--most prominently Collusion by Luke Harding, Russian Roulette by Michael Isikoff and David Corn, and House of Trump, House of Putin by Craig Unger--so it's surprising that Jarrett doesn't at least acknowledge that other people have covered the same territory with more depth and accuracy. What's most shocking about this book is that Jarrett provides no coverage of Mueller's actual investigation. The book was published in July 2018, so Jarrett went to press before Manafort's conviction and his subsequent plea agreement. Some of the arguments that Jarrett attempts were made at Manafort's trial (for example, his contention that the Mueller appointment was invalid), but they collapsed under scrutiny. Four Trump aides (Manafort, Gates, Flynn, and Papadopoulos) have been convicted, Richard Pinedo of California was convicted of providing Russians with stolen identities, and about two dozen Russians have been charged with election interference (including Russians employed by the Internet Research Agency and 12 members of Russian military intelligence, or GRU). In addition, Mueller's team also investigated Michael Cohen and Sam Patton but referred them to the DOJ for prosecution. Mueller is investigating several other people, including Roger Stone, Julian Assange, Eric Prince, Donald Trump Jr., and, of course, president Donald Trump. The book is thin at 286 pages, and it feels padded. Jarrett includes several footnotes to pretend there's a factual basis for his unsupported conclusions, but there is none. In fact, the book routinely resorts to conjecture. Take these sentences:- "It also appears to have been criminal."- "It appears they buried the evidence from Congress..."- "It appears that McCabe was a party to the suspected plot."- "It appears to have been covered up."- "It appears there was coordination between the White House, the CIA, and FBI at the outset of this investigation and it's troubling."Unlike a real journalist, Jarrett doesn't back up any of these inferences with evidence. Maybe the book should have been called "It Appears."At this point, it's absurd for anyone to claim that the Trump-Russia story is a hoax. Mueller's team has found evidence of serious crimes. To date he has indicted 36 individuals and 3 companies, and several people (Flynn, Gates, Manafort, Papadopoulos, Pinedo, and van der Zwaan) have already pleaded guilty. But there is still something we don't know: Did anyone in the U.S. coordinate with Russians in the conspiracy to install Trump in the White House? We'll have to wait a few more weeks to find out.

This book reveals the backstory and a view into the inner workings of the Clinton regime. When you thought you knew (pretty much) the whole story, it's worse than you thought. All pertinent information is documented by numbers and corresponding notes & sources at the back of the book.No level headed person can read this and not be disgusted by how high the levels went, and how low they were willing to go.All I can say is, we dodged a massive bullet when she (and THEY) lost!

The most frustrating aspect of this debacle is that the people who should be in front of grand juries actually set this up to overturn a legal election. The guilty ones put themselves above the law and the Constitution. This book proves it.

I love the fact that the truth is being revealed and that people who have not watched the one news media that has been reporting this for over a year will have some idea of the injustice in the highest places of government.

I am using this with my 4th grader who struggles with spelling. The puzzles/clues are challenging enough that he doesn’t feel like this is bellow his grade level. The spelling level is just right for him. I would say this would be a bigger challenge for someone on the lower age range for this book.We like this book because it gets him working on spelling and vocabulary in a fun way. It feels like a game not a drill or average boring workbook.

All of the above and much more to be found in this concluding sequel to The Wedding Shroud and The Golden Dice. As remarkable for the juxtaposition of starkly contrasting cultures as for the poignant love story of Vel and Caecilia, the story finds Mastarna leading Etruscan Veii against the ambitious Roman general Camillus, each man a literary foil for his opponent. Appearing here to resume their particular stories are Roman Tribune Marcus, patrician Drusus and the Veiian hero Tarchon and arch villain Artile, Vel’s jealous brother. Storrs brings back her female protagonists to add a deeper perspective to events, former prostitute Pinna and her treasure trove of secrets holding two Roman generals and two Roman knights at bay. On the Veiian side, irrepressible Semni sets her sights on hitherto immovable bodyguard Arruns. And throughout, the clash of the irresistible force of the Roman legions and the immovable fortress of Veii are paralleled by the irresistible oppression of women and plebians in Roman culture and politics and the relative freedom and power of women in the Etruscan culture. Storrs makes us wonder what history would have been like if the Etruscans had won. The resolution of the story fulfills what we know of historical events and the imperatives of the foreshadowed events in this fine story.

I've been reading the Tales of Ancient Rome series from the first book, "The Wedding Shroud" and was eagerly awaiting this release. I was SO not disappointed! The research that goes into these books appeals to the amateur historian in me, but the detail and care with which she writes these characters has made me fall in love with them. Her writing this series also shed light for me on an ancient civilization I knew next to nothing about, and has made me hungry for more information about the Etruscans. This book was an emotional one for me, given that I'd immersed myself in these characters' world, and knew how history played out for these people, but I'm happy with the way she ended this story. Mrs. Storrs has made me a fan of her work through these books, and I'm looking forward to reading what's next!

This Trilogy of Ancient Rome is well written and very interesting. The characters are believable and record what I know of the history of those times (397 BC and surrounding years). There is more reference to violence and the threat of violence, than any excess, though some deaths are described in detail, as they are key characters, as is the nature of their deaths. Sexuality is done tastefully and is a reflection of the times and the cultures in which it is practiced. I do not like reading descriptions of graphic sexuality or graphic violence and this was not offensive to me, though I would have looked away in a movie version. I highly recommend this trilogy.

This story was riveting because the author made you believe you were present in 386 B.C.I read all 3 books in the series and only the Author's Notes at the end of the book tell you which parts are real history and her created storyline. The details were so vivid it was hard to tell if this work was fiction or biography.

These three books gave great insight into the life and times of the Roman and Etruscan people in the 20 years or so prior to the destruction of Veii. The details of the politics and conflicts that lead to the downfall of a great people were truly fascinating. I grew to care for each character's story; however, the ending was very sad. I know it reflected what happened in history; however, I was not prepared for the utter destruction of so many lives.

Enjoyed the entire series. Would recommend to those who enjoy history with a lot of creativity. Loved the way she went back and forth with the two story lines. Sure kept your interest.

I love this series but this particular book has its ups and downs. It sagged in the middle with certain characters' dithering over situations and I lost patience with that. However, I enjoyed the rest of the book: great endings to some characters and great beginnings for others. All I can say is there better be a fourth book in the series - I want to know what happens next!

The premise sounded strange to me - but my pre-teen sons LOVE this series! this series was recommended to me by staff at a local bookstore. I bought it solely on their recommendation. My non-reader son DEVOURED it - and begged for the next book. He went through all 5 books in a matter of months. When he got to the last chapter, he said, "I'm not finishing it. I'm not reading the last chapter." WHAT? I said, "You've spent all this time reading the books, why wouldn't you want to find out how it ends?" He explained, "Because then it would be over. If I don't read it, I can save it for when I'm 20 and will always be able to think about how it will end." We read the end together and he cried when it was over.SO SWEET!! I was amazed that my non-reader son would have this high interest level in ANY book! So, in my opinion (and obviously my son's) - 5 stars! My oldest passed these books on to my youngest son with instructions - he was giving them to him out of love and he must take care of them and respect them. My youngest is reading it now and is just as hooked!

First, let me say that I am nearly 25, and graduated college with a degree in English. Read the Hunger Games trilogy, and like many others, was left wanting more after the final book. Realized this was Collins' only other book series, so ignored the fact that it was more "for kids" than the HG series, and bought the first book for my kindle. I have honestly read all 5 in less than 2 weeks, finding myself once again drawn into a world of Collins' making, containing her noteworthy descriptions and numerous-yet-individual characters. Also, as she did in the HG series, I found Collins planting an underlying message in the Underland Chronicles-- this time, she questions whether war is always a "right vs wrong" situation-- and I thought this to be a positive contemplation for kids and adults alike. If you can look beyond the fact that the main character is 12 (much like you could look beyond Katniss' age in the HG books) then this is worth the couple of bucks to read! You will not be disappointed :)

How do I put this in words?I read this book back in the 6th grade on a suggestion from my school librarian. (Remember this was before Hunger Games) I was a slow reader at the time and struggled socially with other kids. When I started reading I couldn't put it down, I then got the second book, and couldn't put it down. But at the time, the series wasn't close to being finished and only two books were out at the time.Fast forward 15 years later (I'm 25), the series always stuck with me. It actually bothered me for 15 years and I got tired of wondering what happened to the series. I couldn't remember the name and I searched for it for about 5 minutes and found the series again. I only bought the first book as I have not read a book since High School.Needless to say, I read the book IN A DAY. It was all I could have ever hoped for and it was a lot better than I actually remember it. I will be buying the entirety of the set on my next paycheck without a doubt. I highly recommend this for everyone. Not just for kids (I would say at least 9 and up as it recommends due to the violence. Which is great for adults though.) but adults as well. This was easily one of the best story telling books of fantasy I have read in quite a long time. And I have read all of the Warcraft books, LOTR and Harry Potter. (Who hasn't read Harry Potter though?)

I listened to (and loved) this series, then bought the first book in print for my 13 year old son. I requested the series in print for his school library and the librarian was very excited about the series and ordered it right away. My son's friends will all be reading as well. There are some heavy themes, but the author handles them well. My only complaint is that the protagonist acts far more mature than any 11 year old I know. But.. I ignored it and enjoyed everything else about it. Great book, great series.

I'd heard about this series many times and it had been bobbing away in my to-read list for a while. I finally decided to take the plunge and read the first book, Gregor the Overlander. That was a few months ago and I've finally found the time to post a review. This story is a journey of an unwitting, and mainly unwilling hero, Gregor. He's a quiet boy who finds himself in the middle of a huge challenge in a dark and troubled world.Gregor somehow manages to tumble down a mysterious hole (the laundry grate) and finds himself in a strange and mysterious place known as Underland, which happens to be below his home city. And, to make matters a little more tricky, his 2 year-old sister, Boots, is with him. Underland is a place that's full of giant rats, hefty spiders, sizable cockroaches and humans known as Underlanders. It's not your ideal place to spend time, but it's one where Gregor finds a link to the mysterious and unsolved disappearance of his father a couple of years before.Upon arrival, he is met by Underlings who insist that Gregor is the promised one. The one who is destined to save them from a life of misery should the fragile peace be broken. Gregor isn't so keen on his newfound importance and is torn throughout the tale. He wants nothing more than to find his father, but he’s also in denial of his new warrior status, as foretold in the Underland prophecy. Ultimately he just wants to go home, so he soon realises that perhaps all three things (dad, home, help) can be achieved and he reluctantly agrees to help his hosts. There's plenty of twists and surprises for him along how way, which provided plenty of tension and excitement to keep my interest until the end.If there was one thing that I wasn't keen on, it was Boots, Gregor’s two year old sibling. I wasn't sure what value the character added to the story, or even why she was included. I felt that she just vaguely lingered in the background and popped up every so often when there was a lull in the story. It may have been a little more interesting if the author had explored the impact that traveling with such a youngster would have on Gregor in more detail. I've read other reviews where Boots was a favorite character, so I guess it's really just a personal observation, rather than a fault or flaw in the plot. But that aside, I did enjoy the book. I'll be sure to read the subsequent books in the series, so I can follow Gregor’s journey to the end.In a nutshell ... Gregor the Overlander was an entertaining read, which has hooked me for the rest of the series. It's a great debut novel from an author who has gone on to become hugely successful.Note: I don’t claim to be a pro-reviewer, I am a reader. My reviews are based on my personal thoughts around the story that the book is trying to tell. I try to focus on the story (which is the reason I read) rather than dissect the book and pass comment on typos, writing style or structure.
